Royal Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have joined forces with French aircraft in a joint strike on an hidden munitions depot in Syria employed by the IS group, according to the British defence ministry.
The facility, located using reconnaissance, was assessed as containing munitions and bombs, the release indicated, and was situated in mountains just north of the historic site of Palmyra in central Syria.
"Our aircraft used Paveway IV guided bombs to hit a series of access tunnels leading to the facility... early reports suggest the strike was effective," officials stated.
There was no sign of any civilian impact in the attack late on Saturday and all the aircraft made a safe return, the ministry further stated.
The Typhoon FGR4s were assisted by a Voyager refuelling tanker.
IS - alternatively referred to as the so-called Islamic State - enforced jihadist rule over significant areas in both Syria and Iraq until 2019.
"This action demonstrates the UK's leading role, and resolve to operate in unison with allied nations, to stamp out any revival of Daesh and their dangerous and violent ideologies in the area," the British Defence Secretary the minister said.
British military aircraft have conducted patrols over Syria to "deter any attempted comeback" of Islamic State subsequent to its routing at the climactic battle in Baghuz in the year 2019, the ministry said.
"I extend gratitude to all the members of our armed forces involved in this mission for their skill and their courage," Healey added. "They were part of thousands of British troops deployed over Christmas and New Year. This action, to eliminate terrorist threats who threaten our way of life, demonstrates how UK forces are always on standby, throughout the year, protecting the UK within its borders and influential overseas."
In December, the American forces executed what it called a "large-scale strike" targeting Daesh sites in Syria, after an assault claimed the lives of two US troops and a civilian interpreter in Palmyra.
The UN says Daesh still maintains between 5,000 and 7,000 combatants in Syria and Iraq.
